BIOGRAPHY
Shaun Dion Hamilton was born on September 11th, 1995, in Montgomery, Alabama. He is a linebacker for the Washington Redskins in the NFL.
Prior to his college career, Hamilton was an early enrollee for the Crimson Tide, after joining the squad in January of 2014. He was selected to participate in the 2014 U.S. Army All-American Bowl and invited to Nike’s “The Opening.” Hamilton was ranked No. 75 in the Rivals100 and the outlet’s No. 6 inside linebacker and also tabbed as the No. 6 player in Alabama by Rivals.
During his freshman season in 2014, Hamilton started on the kickoff coverage unit for the Tide and made appearances in all 14 games with three tackles on the season. He earned Special Teams Player of the Week honors for his efforts in the Iron Bowl. During his sophomore season in 2015, Hamilton won five starts and saw action in every game as a sophomore, notching 27 tackles in the process. He was named one of the defensive players of the week by the Alabama coaching staff for his efforts against Charleston Southern.
In 2016 during his junior season, Hamilton earned the starting job at middle linebacker opposite Butkus Award winner Reuben Foster. He was ranked third on the team in tackles with 64, including nine tackles for loss (-32 yards). Hamilton was a key run-stopper from his middle linebacker spot, collected 52 of his stops against the rush, and also had two interceptions on the season with 40 yards in returns. He was named one of the UA coaching staff’s defensive players of the week for his performances against Kentucky, at Arkansas, and against Auburn.
In 2017 during his senior season, Hamilton was voted a permanent team captain for the 2017 team. He tied for second on the Crimson Tide in total tackles (40) while ranking third on the team in tackles for loss with 5.5 (-22 yards) before his injury. Hamilton was selected as the SEC Defensive Player of the Week for his efforts in the season opener against Florida State and earned defensive player of the week honors from the UA coaching staff for his play in the Florida State and Arkansas games.
The Washington Redskins drafted Hamilton in the sixth round of the 2018 NFL Draft. On May 10, 2018, he signed his rookie contract.
