BIOGRAPHY
Myles Garrett was born on December 29, 1995, in Arlington, Texas. He is a defensive end in the National Football League.
Garrett attended Martin High School and became the first person in school history to be drafted into the NFL. He received Texas Class 5A Defensive Player of the Year accolades following his final season. Garrett also lettered in basketball and track in high school.
At his time in Texas A&M, Garrett was named a consensus freshman All-American and All-SEC player in 2014, as well as his team's Defensive MVP, after totaling 53 tackles and 14 tackles for loss. He set a program freshman record with 3.5 sacks vs. Louisiana-Monroe and holds the Texas A&M and SEC freshman record for sacks with 11.5. Garrett played in 36 career games at Texas A&M, notching 145 total tackles and 32.5 sacks. He earned first-team All-American honors from Walter Camp, FWAA, Associated Press, AFCA, and Sporting News and was a finalist for the Rotary Lombardi Award and Bednarik Award in 2016. In his sophomore year, he recorded 57 total tackles (36 solo), 18.5 tackles for loss, seven quarterback hurries, five forced fumbles, and a blocked punt. The season earned Garrett a first-team All-American selection by the Walter Camp Football Foundation and the Football Writers Association of America. Garrett was also the Bill Willis Award winner as the top defensive lineman. In his junior year, Garrett recorded 8.5 sacks, 32 total tackles (18 of them solo), 15.0 tackles for loss, ten quarterback hurries, two forced fumbles, and a pass breakup. The season resulted in Garrett earning a Unanimous Consensus All-American designation by being voted to the first-team by the Walter Camp Football Foundation, the Football Writers Association of America, the American Football Coaches Association, The Sporting News, the Associated Press, Fox Sports, Pro Football Focus, and SB Nation.
On December 31, 2016, Garrett officially declared his intentions to enter the 2017 NFL Draft. The Cleveland Browns selected Garrett with the first overall pick of the 2017 NFL Draft. He was the highest draft pick from Texas A&M in the history of the NFL Draft. In his first regular-season game on October 8, 2017, he sacked Josh McCown twice. Garrett recorded 28 combined tackles (16 solo), seven sacks, defended one pass, and one fumble recovery during his rookie season. He was named to the PFWA All-Rookie Team for his performance. In only two seasons with the Browns, Garrett has registered 75 total tackles and 20.5 sacks. He was named a defensive captain for the 2018 season, 2018 Pro Bowl, and Second-Team All-Pro.
After a suspension in 2019, Garrett came back In 2020, where he was selected to the 2020 NFL All-Pro Team.
In 2023 Garrett was selected for his 4th Pro Bowl.
In his free time, Myles Garrett likes to play basketball.
Garrett also writes poetry and is working on a dinosaur book for children.
