Matt Gay

BIOGRAPHY

Matt Gay was born on March 15, 1994, in Orem, Utah. He is a placekicker in NFL. Matt played college football at the University of Utah.

In 2017, Matt led the nation in field goals made, field goals made per game, 50+ yard field goals, and field goals attempted. He led the Pac-12 and fifth in the nation in field goal percentage and second in the Pac-12 in scoring at 10.0 points per game, which tied for seventh nationally and was second among kickers. He scored 130 points ranking ninth nationally and third among kickers. One hundred thirty points scored, 30 field goals made and 34 field goals attempted are all Utah single-season records, .882 field goal percentage was fourth all-time in a season at Utah.

 Matt had a career-long 56-yard field goal vs. San Jose State, and Washington State ranked second in Utah history and was the first kicker in school history to make two 50+ field goals in one game. Gay was the first Utah kicker to make five 50+ field goals in a season, 5-of-6 from 50+ yards, 4-of-6 between 40-49 yards and 21-of-22 inside the 40. He opened the season by making 14 straight field goals.

In 2018 Gay led the Pac-12 and ranked third in the nation in field goals made and field goals per game. His 839 field goal percentage ranked second in the Pac-12, his 26 field goals and 31 attempts rank second in a season at Utah.

Matt set the school record with 21-straight made field goals, led the league in scoring and total points, 123 points ranked eighth in the country, and led the nation in 40-yard field goals made and attempted. Matt had a 16-of-16 inside 40 yards. 3-of-5 from 50 yards, five misses were from 56, 54, and 43 yards with three attempts blocked. He set the Utah school record for field goals in a game with a 6-for-6 performance against Oregon, including a 55-yard field goal in a game with a 6-for-6 performance against Oregon, including a 55-yard field goal.

The Buccaneers selected kicker Matt Gay out of the University of Utah with the 145th pick of the 2019 NFL Draft.

On November 17, 2020, Gay was signed off the Colts' practice squad by the Los Angeles Rams to replace injured kicker Kai Forbath. In the 2021 NFC Divisional Playoff game, also against the Buccaneers, he went 3 for 3 on extra point kicks and converted three of his four field goal tries, including the winner from 30 yards out as time expired in a 30–27 win, leading the Rams to the NFC Championship Game. He won his first Super Bowl title when the Rams beat the Cincinnati Bengals in Super Bowl LVI. He also was selected to his first pro bowl in 2021.
