BIOGRAPHY
Mackensie Alexander was born on November 12th, 1993, in Naples, Florida, and currently plays cornerback for the Minnesota Vikings in the NFL.
He attended Immokalee high school where he was rated the No. 4 overall player in the nation by ESPN, and as a senior, he recorded 51 tackles, four interceptions, two caused fumbles, and one recovered fumble as a senior; he also ran track and rated among the top-15 wrestlers in Florida in his weight class.
He played college football at Clemson University; as a freshman in 2013, he redshirted. In 2014 he played in 13 games and recorded 22 tackles, two tackles for loss, six pass breakups, and one recovered fumble in 766 snaps. He was named first-team freshman All-American by FWAA, second-team freshman All-American by Athlon and Honorable Mention All-ACC selection (media, coaches).
As a sophomore in 2015, he played in 14 games and recorded 30 tackles, six pass breakups and two tackles for loss in 733 snaps. He was a Member of the Bednarik and Thorpe (Award preseason watch lists), also preseason third-team All-American by Athlon and semifinalist for the Jim Thorpe Award. He was second-team All-American by the Associated Press, an honorable mention All-American by Sports Illustrated and first-team All-ACC (media). On January 13th, 2016, Alexander announced that he would forego the rest of his eligibility in college and declare for the upcoming NFL draft.
The Minnesota Vikings selected Alexander in the second round (54th overall) of the 2016 NFL Draft; he played in 13 games mostly in social teams. He finished his rookie season with six tackles (5 solo), 1 PD, and one special team stop.
In 2017 he appeared in 14 games and helped the Vikings defense rank #1 in points allowed and yards allowed. He recorded 17 combined tackles (13 solo), six pass deflections, and one interception. During the 2018 season, he started a career-high six games, playing primarily as the nickel corner. He also led all NFL CBs with 4.0 sacks in 2018, tying Robert Griffith’s franchise record for most single-season sacks by a DB; he led the team with 10 PBUs on the season.
