BIOGRAPHY
Lonnie Johnson Jr. was born on November 4th, 1995, in Gary, Indiana. He plays cornerback in the National Football League.
In his early years, Johnson attended West Side Leadership High School where he totaled 66 tackles, two interceptions, two blocked field goals, and a blocked punt while catching 40 passes for 772 yards and 14 touchdowns. He also had 253 rushing yards on 22 carries with five TDs.
After he finished high school, Johnson attended his freshman and sophomore season at Garden City Community College. In 2015 as a freshman, Johnson selected second-team All-Kansas Jayhawk Community College Conference after totaling 35 tackles, including 28 solos and also recorded five interceptions and had one fumble recovery. Although he sat out his sophomore season in 2016, Johnson was still rated by 247sports as a four-star prospect, the No. 2 safety and No. 43 overall player in the junior college ranks. After his sophomore season, Johnson transferred to the University of Kentucky where as a junior in 2017, he played in all 13 games, earning a starting spot in the last five. He totaled 41 tackles, 3.0 TFL, 1.0 sacks, five PBU and two blocked kicks. Johnson earned his first career start against Ole Miss where he recorded five tackles, a TFL and a PBU and against Tennessee, he had three tackles and his first career sack. In his senior season in 2018, Johnson started in all 13 games and totaled 23 tackles, four PBUs, an interception, and a forced fumble. His first interception of his career came in the Citrus Bowl against Penn State where he also had a pass breakup and four tackles. By the end of the season, Johnson was invited to play in the Reese's Senior Bowl where he charted four tackles in the game for the South.
After he graduated from college, Johnson entered the 2019 NFL Draft where he was selected in the second round by the Houston Texans and on May 10th he signed his rookie contract. Johnson joined the New Orleans Saints in 2023.
