Our one-to-one mentoring relationships support the critical social and emotional development needed to help build resilience and promote the mental health and well-being of thousands of children we serve across America. Now more than ever, Big Brothers Big Sisters agencies across the country are stepping up to find innovative ways in serving our communities to #KeepKidsConnected.
24 Court-sized shade covers called "Buccaneers Fitness Zones" are erected in schools in mostly underserved communities to create additional outdoor educational and recreational opportunities. These open air structures have become community symbols of the Buccaneers enduring commitment to education for underserved youth, now and for generations to come.
The Husker Heroes Outreach Event is specially designed for individuals with disabilities and their families to hang out and play games with Husker student-athletes. The event is sponsored by the NU Athletics Department and Organizations Networking for Everyone with Special Needs (including the Autism Family Network, Autism Society of Nebraska, Arc of Lincoln, Autism Center of Nebraska, Nebraska Spina Bifida, United Cerebral Palsy, Down Syndrome Association for Families, Down Syndrome Advocates in Action, Horses for Healing, Windsong Equine Therapy, Miss Amazing, Dreams Unlimited, Wonderfully Made, 10/11 Cares). Over 300 special needs individuals and their guests, hailing from across the state, will mingle with all first-year Husker student-athletes.
Inspire children's passions and encourage them to achieve success in life. Operation Bigs focuses on providing mentors for children in military families.
