BIOGRAPHY
KeeSean Johnson was born on October 9th, 1996, in Mountain View, California. He is a wide receiver in the National Football League.
He played college football at Fresno State and is the program's all-time leader in receiving yards and receptions. During high school, he was a two-way standout for coach Earl Hansen at Palo Alto HS, Johnson caught 58 passes for 1,015 yards and 14 touchdowns as a senior, averaging 17.5 yards per catch. He returned three punts for touchdowns in 2013. On defense, he had 38 total tackles and three interceptions as a senior to help lead the Vikings all the way to the Division II CIF Central Coast Section semifinals. As a junior, he hauled in 15 passes for 266 yards and one TD while averaging 17.7 yards per reception and helped his Vikings squad earn a CIF Central Coast Open Division Playoff berth in 2012. He also played guard on the Palo Alto basketball team and averaged 9.0 points per game as a junior.
Johnson redshirted his freshman year in 2014. By 2015, he played in all 12 games, making 10 starts on the season and ranking second on the team with 37 receptions. He had 364 yards receiving and two touchdowns on the year. For the 2016 season, he got an All-Mountain West honorable mention selection. KeeSean started all 12 games, leading the team in receptions (66), receiving yards (773) and receiving touchdowns (6), ranking third in the league and 45th in the nation in receptions per game with 5.50 per game, seventh in the Mountain West in receiving yards (773) and eighth in the league in receiving yards per game (64.4). He tied for the team lead in all-purpose yards with 1,049 as he returned 11 kickoffs for 227 yards and six punts for 36 yards. Johnson posted a single-game career bests for catches (10), receiving yards (142) and receiving touchdowns (3) in a single performance vs. Air Force on Oct. 28 – the sophomore’s three touchdowns were the most in a single game since Davante Adams did so against San Jose State on Nov. 29, 2013. He caught at least one pass in each game in 2016 and has caught at least one pass in 22-straight games dating back to last season.
During the 2017 season, Johnson was named an All-Mountain West second-team selection, starting all 14 games, leading the team in receptions (77), receiving yards (1,013) and touchdowns (8) for the second-straight season. He led the team in all-purpose yardage (1,034), chipping in 21 yards on four punt returns on top of 1,013 yards receiving, caught at least one pass in all 14 games in 2017, extending a streak to a program record 36 consecutive games dating back to 2015 with at least one catch, breaking Henry Ellard’s record of 34 set from 1979-82 and ranked third in the Mountain West and 29th in the nation in receiving yards (1,013). He also got ranked third in the MW and 42nd in the nation in touchdown receptions (8), ranked fourth in the MW in receptions per game (5.5) and fourth in the MW in receiving yards per game (72.4). He caught at least four passes in 13 of 14 games and at least six passes in seven of 14 games.
On 2018 at his senior season, KeeSean was named an All-Mountain West Second-Team selection, starting all 14 games for the Bulldogs. He became the program’s all-time leader in both career receptions (275) and career receiving yards (3,463) during the season, leading the team in receptions (95), receiving yards (1,340) and touchdowns (8) for the third-straight season. His 95 receptions ranked fourth-most in the FBS in 2018 and fifth-most in a single season in program history, his 1,340 yards ranked sixth-most in the FBS in 2018 and the fifth-most in a single season in program history. Johnson averaged 95.7 receiving yards per game, 13th-best in the FBS and third-best in the MW. He averaged 6.8 catches per game, 12th-best in the FBS and third-best in the MW, and chalked six 100-yard games (Idaho, Toledo, New Mexico, Hawai’i, San Diego State, San Jose State), second-most in the MW.
KeeSean concluded the season as the FBS active career receptions (275) leader and owned the second-most career receiving yards (3,463) among all active FBS players, he wrapped his career catching a pass in 50 consecutive games, which led all FBS players, and set a Fresno State record and Mountain West record for most consecutive games with at least one catch (caught a pass in 51 of 52 career games played). He got named to Biletnikoff Award preseason watch list.
Johnson was drafted by the Arizona Cardinals in the sixth round with the 174th overall pick in the 2019 NFL Draft.
On October 11, 2022, Johnson was signed to the practice squad of the Buffalo Bills. He signed a reserve/future contract on January 23, 2023.
