BIOGRAPHY

Justin Layne was born on January 12th, 1998, in Cleveland, Ohio. He is a cornerback in the NFL.

During high school, Layne was rated among the nation’s top prospects by PrepStar (No. 169), 247Sports.com (No. 196) and Rivals.com (No. 210). He caught 36 passes for a career-high 866 yards (24.1 avg.) and 12 TDs as a junior.

Layne played for the Michigan State University football team from 2016 to 2018. Layne entered his freshman season at Michigan State in 2016 as a wide receiver but was converted into a cornerback prior to the fifth game of the season. In 2017 Layne recorded 40 tackles in 13 games with nine starts, he was ranked second on the team with eight pass break-ups. In 2018 his 16 passes defended also ranked tied for first in the Big Ten (15 PBUs, one interception). Layne was ranked fifth on the team with a career-high 72 tackles, including 2.5 for losses, played 833 snaps in 12 games, he had at least one pass break-up in eight of 12 games. During his career, he played in 34 games and had 130 tackles, three interceptions, 0.5 sacks, and one touchdown. After his junior season, Layne entered the 2019 NFL Draft

The Pittsburgh Steelers selected Layne in the third round (83rd overall) of the 2019 NFL Draft. On May 30, 2019, the Pittsburgh Steelers signed Layne to a four-year contract.
