Josh Doctson

BIOGRAPHY

Josh Doctson was born on December 3rd, 1992 in Mansfield, Texas. He is a wide receiver for the Minnesota Vikings in the NFL. In his early years, Doctson attended Legacy H.S. in Mansfield, Texas, where he earned first-team All-District 5-5A honors as a senior captain and also earned Academic All-District honors. He caught 40 passes for 604 yards and was voted a team captain and was selected Legacy's Most Valuable Player.

After he finished high school, Doctson attended his freshman year at the University of Wyoming in 2011, where he finished fifth on the Cowboys with 35 receptions for 393 yards and five touchdowns. He caught a 7-yard scoring pass against TCU as part of three receptions for 43 yards in Wyoming's 31-20 loss to the Horned Frogs and had touchdown catches of 80 and 35 yards in a total of three grabs for 129 yards to key a 22-19 come-from-behind victory over Colorado State in the regular-season finale. His first three career receptions, for 17 yards, came in a week four contest against No. 9 Nebraska. In 2012, Doctson transferred to the University of TCU and started playing for TCU in his sophomore season in 2013, where he tied for the lead with 36 receptions while topping the Horned Frogs with 440 receiving yards. He had a career-high eight catches for 92 yards, including a 10-yard touchdown, against West Virginia and also had a season-long 37-yard reception against the Mountaineers. Doctson posted a touchdown catch in three of the final four games and closed the season with five receptions for 66 yards and a 16-yard touchdown versus Baylor. His first career TCU score was on a 27-yard grab against Southeastern Louisiana. As a junior in 2014, Doctson was a second-team All-Big 12 selection and semifinalist for the Earl Campbell Tyler Rose Award. He set TCU single-season records for receiving yards with 1,018 and touchdown catches with 11 and posted just the second 1,000-yard receiving season in TCU history. He was named the Big 12 Offensive Player of the Week and the College Football Performance Awards National Wide Receiver of the Week for his efforts against Oklahoma State and he posted his first TCU 100-yard receiving game with seven catches for 225 yards, falling one-yard shy of the school single-game record. In his senior season in 2015, Doctson had one of the most prolific campaigns by a wide receiver in TCU history. He caught school-record 79 passes for 1,327 yards in 2015, caught school-record 14 touchdown passes and averaged a career-best 16.9 yards per catch. He was a consensus First-Team All-American, was named Biletnikoff Award finalist, was named Walter Camp Player of the Year semifinalist, was named Maxwell Award semifinalist and was named a midseason First Team All-American selection at the midway point of the year by Sporting News, SI.com and ESPN.com. Doctson finished his TCU career with a school-record 2,785 receiving yards and 29 touchdown catches and his 2,785 yards receiving broke Mike Renfro's TCU mark of 2,739, while the 29 scoring grabs shattered Josh Boyce's record of 22. He was one of just two players in TCU history with at least 20 touchdown receptions in a career. Including his freshman season at Wyoming, he completed his collegiate career with 215 receptions, 3,178 yards receiving and 34 touchdowns in 47 games. 

After he graduated from college, Doctson entered the 2016 NFL Draft where he was selected in the first round by the Washington Redskins. He made his first career reception and appearance in the season opener in a 16–38 loss on Monday Night Football to the Pittsburgh Steelers. In the 2017 season, during a Week 3 win over the Oakland Raiders, Doctson recorded his first career touchdown on a 52-yard reception. He finished the season playing in all 16 games, starting 14 and recording 35 receptions for 502 yards and 6 touchdowns. In 2018, Doctson played in 15 games with 12 starts, finishing as the Redskins second-leading receiver with 44 catches for 532 yards and two touchdowns. On May 1st, 2019, the Redskins declined the fifth-year option on Doctson's contract, making him a free agent in 2020. On August 31st, 2019, the Redskins released Doctson. On September 2nd, 2019, Doctson signed with the Minnesota Vikings on a one year deal and was placed on injured reserve on September 12th, 2019.

On February 22, 2020, Doctson signed with the New York Jets.
