BIOGRAPHY
Jonnu Andre Smith was born on August 22nd, 1995, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. He plays tight end in the National Football League.
Prior to his college career, Smith attended West Port High School as a junior, had nine receptions for 101 yards and two touchdowns. He was rated the No. 75 tight end nationally from 247Sports and rated three stars from 247Sports.
During his freshman season in 2013, Smith started all 12 games. He earned All-Conference USA honorable mention honors as well as a spot on the league’s All-Freshmen Team and led all FIU players with 39 receptions for 388 yards. He was the only FIU receiver to have a catch in all 12 games. He either led or tied for the team-lead in receptions or receiving yards in eight of 12 games.
In 2014, during his sophomore season, Smith appeared and started in all 12 games for the Panthers. He earned First-Team All-Conference USA honors and was named SI.com All-American (Honorable Mention). Smith was named game captain three times. He was named to the John Mackey Award Midseason Watch List. Smith led FIU with 710 yards on 61 catches and eight touchdowns and also led all tight ends nationally in touchdowns, receiving yards and receptions. Smith was ranked No. 7 in the conference in receptions-per-game (5.1) and was No. 8 in the league in receiving yards-per-game (59.2). Smith set the school record for tight ends in receiving yards, touchdowns, and receptions.
During his junior season in 2015, Smith appeared and started in eight games for the Panthers. He recorded 36 catches for 397 yards and four touchdowns. Smith finished fourth on the team in receptions, third in receiving yards and second in receiving touchdowns. During his senior season in 2016, Smith appeared and started in 11 games for the Panthers. He was a Second-Team, All-C-USA honoree, and also named a second-team, all-conference selection by Phil Steele. Smith caught 42 passes for 506 yards and four touchdowns and became the fifth player in FIU history to register over 2,000 yards receiving during a career (2,001 yards). He averaged 12.0 yards-per-catch and 46.0 yards-per-game in 2016 and finished his career recording at least one reception in every game he played.
The Tennessee Titans selected Smith in the third round of the 2017 NFL Draft. On May 17, 2017, the Titans signed Smith to a four-year contract. Smith finished his rookie season with 18 receptions for 157 yards and two touchdowns. In 2018, Smith finished the season with 20 receptions for 258 yards and three touchdowns.
On March 19, 2021, the New England Patriots signed Smith to a four-year, $50 million deal.
On March 13, 2023, Smith was traded to the Atlanta Falcons.
Smith signed a 2-year deal with the Dolphins during the 2024 season.
