BIOGRAPHY
Joseph Thuney was born on November 16th, 1992, in Centerville, Ohio. He is a guard in the NFL.
He attended Archbishop Alter high school; where he helped lead the team to an 1113 record and a spot in the semifinals of the state playoffs. He was a member of two D4 football state championship teams.
He played college football for the Ohio State University; in 2011 as a freshman, he redshirted the season and was named the offensive scout team player of the week for the North Carolina game.
In 2012 he played in eight games behind Remington Award candidate Cam Wentz. As a sophomore in 2013, he started the opener at right tackle, the second game at right guard and the last ten games at left tackle. He Earned the Jim Ritcher Award for the team’s most valuable offensive lineman.
In 2014 as a junior, he was one of the top performers on the offensive line from his left guard position and played every offensive snap in eight of the nine games in which he saw action.
The Patriots drafted Thuney in the third round of the 2016 NFL Draft with the 78th overall selection; Thuney won the starting left guard spot to start the season and remained the starter for all 16 regular-season games.
He also started all three postseason games. On February 5th, 2017, Thuney was part of the Patriots team that won Super Bowl LI. The PFWA named Thuney to its 2016 All-Rookie Team at guard.
In 2017 he started at left guard in all 16 games of the regular season as part of an offense that led the NFL in total offense and passing yards and finished second in scoring. Thuney made it to his second straight Super Bowl when the Patriots defeated the Jacksonville Jaguars in the AFC Championship Game.
In 2018 he Started at left guard in all 16 regular-season games and played every offensive play and started at left guard in all three postseason contests, including the Super Bowl LIII victory vs. the Los Angeles Rams.
He became the first player in NFL history to start in the Super Bowl in each of his first three seasons in the NFL, starting at left guard in Super Bowls LI, LII and LIII.
In 2023 he was selected for his second Pro Bowl.
