Elgton Torrance Jenkins Jr. was born December 26, 1995 in Clarksdale, Mississippi. He is a Guard in the NFL.
Elgton Jenkins played high school football at Clarksdale in Mississippi. Jenkins earned Second-Team 5A Mississippi Association of Coaches All-State honors as a senior. He was selected to play for the North Team as an offensive lineman in the Bernard Blackwell All-Star Football Game following his final year and earned a place on the Mississippi High School Athletic Association (MHSAA) Region 1-5A First All-Region Team.
Jenkins played in 11 games with three starts his redshirt freshman year at Mississippi State. He started at left tackle against Troy and Ole Miss and also started at right tackle at Arkansas. He saw action in 420 snaps during the regular season. Jenkins played a season-high 87 snaps during start at Arkansas.
Jenkins played in 12 games with five starts his sophomore year. According to Pro Football Focus, Jenkins ranked second in the SEC in pass block efficiency with a 97.8 percentile. He was in on 514 snaps during the year, including a season-high 70 in a dominating performance against No. 4 Texas A&M. Jenkins started at left tackle the first three games of the year – South Alabama, South Carolina and LSU and then moved to guard. He started at left guard at Ole Miss and in the St. Petersburg Bowl.
Jenkins started all 13 games at center his junior year. He made his first career start at center in the season-opener vs. Charleston Southern. Jenkins paved the way for a dominant rushing offense that ranked second in the SEC, racking up 251.7 yards per game, which was also 11th nationally. Jenkins was part of an offensive line that allowed the fewest sacks in the SEC and the fewest by an MSU team since 1988 (13).
Jenkins started all 13 games at center his senior year. He was the recipient of the Kent Hull Trophy, awarded annually to the top offensive lineman in the state of Mississippi. He earned first-team All-America honors from The Athletic and fourth-team honors from Phil Steele. Jenkins played 773 total snaps, including 369 in pass protection, according to Pro Football Focus. He did not allow a sack through the first nine games of the season. Jenkins surrendered zero QB hits and only six total pressures, committed just one penalty and tied for the SEC lead in fewest total pressures allowed (6) among centers who played at least 200 pass-blocking snaps. Jenkins earned a pass-blocking grade of 80.0 or better from PFF in seven different games, including four times in SEC action. Jenkins had the third-best overall PFF grade (74.1) in the SEC among centers who played a minimum of 770 snaps. His 74.1 overall grade was his highest since 2015 when he finished with a 73.1 grade. He collected the second highest PFF pass-blocking grade (84.8) in the conference among centers. Jenkins finished as one of only four centers in the SEC who did not allow a QB hit over at least 350 snaps played in pass protection. He led an offensive line that helped the offense rank second in the SEC in both rushing yards per game (223.6) and yards per rush (5.7). He helped pave the way for the offense to rush for 300 or more yards in an SEC-best four games. Jenkins did not allow a single pressure and anchored an offensive front that cleared paths for 331 yards rushing against the Ragin’ Cajuns as the offense averaged 8.5 yards per play. He was the highest-graded center by PFF in the SEC for the week with a season-high 81.0 overall grade.
Jenkins was drafted by the Green Bay Packers with the 44th overall pick in the second round of the 2019 NFL Draft. He signed his rookie contract on May 13, 2019. During the 2020–21 season, he earned his first Pro Bowl nod as a starter. On December 23, 2022, he signed a four-year contract extension.
