Eddie Goldman was born on January 6th, 1994, in Washington, D. C. He is a nose tackle in the National Football League.
Goldman attended Friendship Collegiate Academy Public Charter School where he played football for the Yannick Ngakoue. He was a 2012 Parade All-American and SI.com’s 2011 High School First Team All-American and racked up 38 tackles, 23 tackles for loss, 15 sacks and five forced fumbles while helping Friendship Collegiate to a 9-1 record. He earned first-team All-Met by the Washington Post as a senior offensive lineman grading out at 90 percent and was the No. 10 player on the ESPNU 150 and No. 1 defensive tackle, No. 2 player in the region and No. 1 player in D.C. by ESPN. He ranked the No. 7 prospect nationally by Rivals and No. 1 player in D.C. and No. 2 defensive tackle. He was also No. 17 on Tom Lemming’s MaxPreps Top 100and was ranked by scouts as the No. 4 defensive tackle. Goldman was also the No. 1 player in D.C., No. 3 defensive tackle and No. 14 on the Top 247 list by 247Sports and he tallied 40 tackles, six sacks, one interception and one fumble recovery as a junior…selected FSU over Alabama and Auburn.
After finishing high school, Goldman committed to the University of Florida to play college football. As a freshman in 2012, he appeared in 10 games and had his best game against Wake Forest where he recorded a career-best three tackles and a tackle for loss and he saw action versus Georgia Tech in the ACC Championship Game recording a tackle. In his sophomore season in 2013, he was the started defensive end starting all 13 games He set career-highs for tackles with 19, TFL with 3.0 and sacks with 2.0. He made his first career start against Pittsburgh on September 2 and he set new highs in tackles with 4 and tackles for loss with 1.5 while recording his first career sack against Boston. Goldman also helped FSU have nation’s No. 1 scoring defense with 12.1 points per game, third-ranked total defense with 281.4 yards per game and 18th-best run defense with 124.8 yards per game. As a junior in 2014, he was a dominant force in the middle of FSU’s defensive line and one of the nation’s top interior defensive lineman and was an All-ACC selection and All-American. He led the Noles with four sacks and ranked third with eight tackles for loss and finished with 35 total stops.
After his junior season, Goldman entered the 2015 NFL Draft and was selected in the second round by the Chicago Bears. In his rookie year, he played fifteen games, recording 39 tackles and six tackles for a loss, while being ranked fourth among rookies with 4.5 sacks and was named to Mel Kiper Jr's All-Rookie Team and the Pro Football Writers of America's All-Rookie Team. In 2016, he played six games with five starts, while in 2017, he appeared in 11 games and recorded 1.5 sacks, 44 combined tackles, five quarterback hits, and one fumble recovery. On September 7, 2018, Goldman signed a four-year contract extension with the Bears and finished the 2018 season with three sacks, 40 combined tackles, three quarterback hits, and one fumble recovery. He received an overall grade of 89.2 from Pro Football Focus in 2018, which ranked as the 12th highest grade among all qualifying interior defenders.
