BIOGRAPHY
Dru Samia was born on August 22nd, 1997, in Danville, California. He plays offensive guard for the Minnesota Vikings in the NFL.
In his early years, Samia attended San Ramon Valley High School where he was ranked by Rivals, Scout and 247Sports as a 4-star recruit and by ESPN as a 3-star prospect, was recognized as No. 136 player overall nationally by Scout and was rated as country’s No. 13 offensive tackle according to Scout and No. 23 by Rivals. He also was slotted as No. 14 offensive guard in the country by Scout, No. 44 by 247Sports and No. 59 by ESPN, was chosen as the No. 21 player in the state of California by Scout, No. 38 by Rivals, No. 56 by 247Sports and No. 93 by ESPN, and was ranked 136th in West Region by ESPN. By the end of his high school career, he was invited to The Opening showcase event.
After he finished high school, Samia committed to the University of Oklahoma where as a freshman in 2015, he played in 12 games with nine starts at right tackle. He made his collegiate debut on September 5th against Akron, becoming one of 10 freshmen in OU history to start at offensive tackle. As a sophomore in 2016, Samia started all 13 games and by the end of the season, he was named to Academic All-Big 12 Second Team and was an honorable mention All-Big 12 selection by league's coaches. As a junior in 2017, Samia played in 13 games and made 12 starts. He was a second-team All-Big 12 choice by league's coaches and was an Academic All-Big 12 First Team honoree and a CoSIDA Academic All-District selection. In his senior year in 2018, Samia started all 14 games at right guard and was one of two players to receive the team's Don Key award. He was named a second-team All-American by the AFCA and AP, was named Tri-Big 12 Offensive Lineman of the Year by league’s coaches and was a Polynesian Player of the Year finalist. He was also a first-team All-Big 12 selection by league’s coaches and the AP, was a member of an OU offensive line unit that won Joe Moore Award and was an Academic All-Big 12 Second Team selection.
After he graduated from college, Samia entered the 2019 NFL Draft where he was selected in the fifth round by the Minnesota Vikings.
