Demetrius Harris

BIOGRAPHY

Demetrius Harris was born on July 29th, 1991, in Carrollton, Texas. He is a tight end in the NFL.

He played college basketball and club football at the University of Wisconsin–Milwaukee, which has no college football program. He was signed by the Kansas City Chiefs as an undrafted free agent in 2013. After a standout high school career at Jacksonville High School in Jacksonville, Arkansas, where he made All-State in both football and basketball, Harris originally signed with Arkansas State to play football, but he decided to switch to basketball instead.

As a senior, he led the team in rebounding and finished ninth in the league in field goal shooting, and also played two seasons at Mineral Area Community College. He majored in information technology. He spent the majority of the 2013 season on the Chiefs’ practice squad. On 2014, seeing action in eight games with three starts, he tallied three receptions for 20 yards and finished the season on the injured reserve list with an ankle injury on September 7 vs. Tennessee. Demetrius made his NFL debut on September 14 at Denver, where he caught his first career pass for 10 yards. On September 21, at Miami, he made his first career start at WR.

During 2015, Harris played in all 16 regular-season games for the first time in his career with nine starts. He caught seven passes for 74 yards and a touchdown and made his postseason debut in two games, along with one start, and added a 10-yard reception.

At 2016, Harris appeared in every game with a career-high and 11 starts. He caught 17 passes for 123 yards and a score and also played in one postseason contest. On September 25 vs. New York Jets, he recovered a fumble on special teams and returned it 27 yards for a touchdown, and on December 25 vs. Denver, he posted a season highs with six receptions for 37 yards and a touchdown.

For the 2017 season, Demetrius played all 16 games with seven starts, adding career highs in receptions (18) and receiving yards (224). He caught one touchdown pass and recorded career highs with two catches for 22 yards in the playoffs, On September 7 at New England, he caught his lone touchdown pass of the season. In December 24 vs. Miami, he notched a season-high four receptions and on December 31 at Denver, he caught three passes for a season-high 73 yards.

The 2018 season was his last one with the Chiefs, and Harris started four of 11 games, posting 12 receptions for 164 yards and three touchdowns. He started one of two postseason games. On October 1) at Denver, he caught two passes for a season-high 59 yards, registered season highs with three receptions in back-to-back games at Oakland on December 2, and versus Baltimore on December 9.

On March 14, 2019, Harris signed a two-year, $6 million contract with the Cleveland Browns. Overall in his professional career, Harris has played in 71 career games with 33 starts, accruing 57 receptions for 605 yards and six touchdowns. In 2020, he signed a one year deal with the Chicago Bears.
