Byron Cowart

BIOGRAPHY

Byron Cowart was born on May 20th, 1996, in Seffner, Florida, and currently plays defensive tackle for the New England Patriots in the NFL.

At Armwood High School, Cowart was nation’s top defensive prospect, he led the Armwood Hawks to the state championship game as a junior and senior, having 185 career tackles and 29 sacks, participated in Under Armour All-America Game, was nation’s top-ranked recruit by ESPN and Rivals. Scout and 247 Sports rank him first among recruits at his position nationally, SA Today All-USA, Florida Class 6A player of the year, Tampa Bay Times Blue Chipper of the Year and PrepStar top 10. He also a basketball and track letterman.

As a freshman at Auburn in 2015, was a true freshman who was in the rotation at defensive end, he played in every game, totaling six tackles, saw his first action against Louisville, assisting on two tackles, recording a tackle, two QB hurries vs. Idaho and was Academic Top Tiger.

As a sophomore in 2016, he played in 10 games at defensive end, totaling six tackles, forced a Texas A&M fumble, made two tackles against ULM, had TFL, two tackles against Arkansas, and missed Alabama A&M, Alabama games with an injury.

As a junior in 2017, he departed Auburn early in the fall semester and enrolled at Hillsborough Community College.

As a senior in 2018, he started all 12 games on the defensive line, totaled 38 tackles (18 solo) on the season to go with five tackles for loss and two interceptions, recorded second interception of the season vs. Michigan State (11/3), tallied a tackle for loss vs. Illinois (10/27), totaled a career-best seven tackles at #19 Iowa (10/20), had a career day against Rutgers (10/13), posting an interception and 2.0 tackles for loss, including a sack, notched three tackles, a sack and a forced fumble vs. Minnesota (9/22), posted five tackles against Temple (9/15), had four tackles, including a sack, at Bowling Green (9/8), and made Terrapin debut starting at defensive end against #23 Texas (9/1), making two tackles.

Cowart was drafted by the New England Patriots in the fifth round (159th overall) of the 2019 NFL Draft.
