BIOGRAPHY
Anthony Averett was born on November 30th, 1994, in Woodbury, New Jersey. He is a defensive back in the NFL.
Prior to his college career, Averett attended Woodbury Junior-Senior High School where he played defensive back and quarterback. During his freshman season in 2014, Averett played in one game against Western Carolina. During his sophomore season in 2015, Averett saw action on special teams for the Tide. He earned his first playing time of the year against Middle Tennessee and followed with time against ULM, Texas A&M, Tennessee, Charleston Southern, and Michigan State. Averett collected his first tackle of the season on special teams at A&M and then made one stop on special teams against Michigan State.
In 2016 during his junior season, Averett was a speedy defensive back who provided depth in the Alabama secondary and earned a starting role at corner. He totaled 48 stops on the season, including 39 solo tackles and also had three tackles for loss (-19 yards), a team-leading eight pass breakups and a pair of forced fumbles. Averett tied for the team lead with eight stops on kickoff coverage. Averett was named one the UA coaches’ defensive players of the week for his performances against Florida and Washington.
As a senior in 2017, Averett carried his experience from his junior season into the starting corner spot during his senior year. He collected 48 tackles, including four for a loss (-23 yards), and tied for second on the team with eight pass breakups. Averett added one interception with a return of 30 yards to his totals and registered 32 of his tackles against the pass to lead the Tide. He was named one of the UA coaching staff’s defensive players of the week for his performances against Fresno State and at Mississippi State.
The Baltimore Ravens drafted Averett in the fourth round of the 2018 NFL Draft.
