BIOGRAPHY
Gordon Hayward was born on March 23rd, 1990 in Indianapolis, Indiana. He is a small forward in the NBA.
Hayward began his career playing prep sports at Brownsburg High School in Brownsburg, Indiana. Hayward was primarily a tennis star being a two-time All-State singles player before a growth spurt that had Hayward standing 6'8. As a senior in 2007–08, Hayward averaged 18.0 points, 8.4 rebounds and 3.6 assists per game and was selected Indianapolis Star Player of the Year. Hayward was also was selected to selected Second-team all-state by the Associated Press and First-team all-state by the Indiana Basketball Coaches Association.
Hayward would play his colleigate basketball at Butler University. As a freshman, Hayward averaged 13.1 points and 6.5 rebounds per game. He was named Horizon League Newcomer of the Year, and selected to the Horizon League All-Newcomer Team and the All-Horizon League First Team. Hayward averaged 15.5 points and 8.2 rebounds per game as a sophomore. This effort would lead the school to winning Horizon League regular season and tournament titles. Hayward was named the Horizon League Player of the Year and selected to the All-Horizon League First Team. Hayward was also named to the All-NCAA Tournament Team, leading Butler to the 2010 National Championship Game against Duke University.
On June 24th, 2010, Hayward was selected as the ninth overall pick in the NBA draft by the Utah Jazz. Hayward would play 7 seasons with the Jazz. As a player on the Jazz, Hayward would average 15.6 points, 4.2 rebounds, and 3.4 assists.
On July 14th, 2017, Hayward would sign with the Boston Celtics. On November 29, 2020, Hayward was signed by the Boston Celtics to a four-year $120 million deal and then traded to the Charlotte Hornets, along with 2023 and 2024 second-round draft picks, in exchange for a conditional 2022 second-round draft pick.
