Wiggins World Foundation
From growing up in Vaughan to now playing in the NBA for the Golden State Warriors, Andrew Wiggins has proven that dreams do come true. Drafted first overall in the 2014 NBA draft, Andrew is just the second Canadian to be taken number one overall. Now, Andrew wants to help youth who are less fortunate create their own dreams. Through these camps, kids will have a chance to learn from caring coaches, and experience the sport and spirit of being part of a team. Wiggins World Foundation is committed to providing youth the opportunity to take part in a two-day camp, encouraging them to play basketball while building their confidence and wellbeing at the same time. The Wiggins World Foundation is committed to giving kids who are less fortunate a chance to be a part of a team, the ability to dedicate themselves to being the best they can be, and the platform to recognize and reach their full potential!
During the 2016 All-Star Weekend, Andrew Wiggins welcomed hundreds of kids in his hometown for a special basketball experience and unveiled a new look Dufferin Clark Community Centre built to inspire the next generation of ballers. The special give back tipped-off a unique, multi-year partnership with Andrew and the Dufferin Clark Community Centre where adidas will supply footwear, uniforms and equipment for youth basketball leagues and a lasting impression for years to come.
In 2018, Wiggins chose to support is a special one. According to his Instagram announcement, the money he donates will go toward "supporting underprivileged children who face barriers in participating in organized sports." As Wiggins shared in the caption to his announcement, "The goal is to help kids be kids and play sports!" He donated $22 for every point he scores this season to charity. Why 22? That's the number on his jersey. Wiggins said he donated close to $30,000 to various charities.
