Steve Birnbaum was born January 23, 1991, in Newport, California. He is a defender in Major League Soccer.
Birnbaum was selected in the first round, 2nd overall, of the 2014 MLS SuperDraft on January 14, 2014, by D.C. United and became the team captain in 2017. In 2019 he led the MLS in headed clearances with 109 and aerials won with 177.
