Yermín Mercedes was born February 14, 1993, in La Romana, Dominican Republic. He is a catcher in the MLB.

Mercedes was selected by the Chicago White Sox in the minor-league portion of the 2017 Rule 5 draft. He spent the 2018 season with the Winston-Salem Dash, hitting .289/.362/.478/.840 with 14 home runs and 64 RBI. He split the 2019 season between the Birmingham Barons and the Charlotte Knights, combining to hit .317/.388/.581/.968 with 23 home runs and 80 RBI.

Mercedes was added to the White Sox 40–man roster following the 2019 season.

On August 1, 2020, Mercedes was called up to the major leagues. He made his MLB debut the following day as a pinch hitter. Mercedes recorded the first hit of his major league career on April 2, 2021, when he hit a single against the Los Angeles Angels. In the same game, he became the first player in Chicago White Sox history to record five hits in their first major league start.
