BIOGRAPHY
Ramón Urías was born June 3, 1994, in Magdalena de Kino, Sonora, Mexico. He is a second baseman in the MLB.
On March 11, 2011 Urias was assigned to DSL Rangers. Ramón played in 90 games between Springfield (AA) and Memphis (AAA) as a infielder, starting games at second base (47), third base (13), shortstop (7) and first base (7). He batted .300 with 13 HR, 44 RBI and 28 doubles. Urías ran off a 14-game hitting streak from July 1st until the 15th, batting .375 (2156) during the streak between May 18, 2018 to November 20, 2018. He ranked 3rd among Cardinals minor leaguers hitting 28 doubles. Urías appeared in five Pacific Coast League playoff games and the Triple-A National Championship.
Ramón played for Caneros de los Mochis in the Mexican Pacific League during November 2018 in the off-season batting .318 with 10 HR, 34 RBI, 34 walks, a .432 on-base perceantage in 50 games. He led the Mexican Pacific League in on-base perecentage (.432) and ranked among the league leaders in batting (.318, 6th), home runs (10, T-5th), walks (34, T-4th), slugging (.542, 3rd) and HR/AB (17.30, 3rd). Urías hit three home runs with seven RBI vs. Obregón on November 28th, 2018, including a 1st inning grand slam (homered in 3rd & 6th too) and scored four runs.
Urías was claimed off waivers by the Baltimore Orioles on February 11, 2020. On August 18, 2020, Urías was promoted to MLB for the first time. Urías made his major league debut on August 20 against the Boston Red Sox, striking out in his only plate appearance. In 25 at-bats in his rookie season for the Orioles, Urías slashed .360/.407/.560 with a home run and 3 RBI.
In 2021, Urías appeared in 262 at-bats for the Orioles and bat .279/.361/.412 with 7 home runs and 38 RBIs.
Urías continued to perform well for the team and stepped up as the teams' primary 3rd basemen for the 2022 season. In 403 at-bats, he slashed .248/.305/.414 with 16 home runs and 51 RBIs. Urías managed a 3.6WAR for 2022, and hit his first career triple on September 27th against the Boston Red Sox. In the same game, Urías hit 3-for-3 and was on track to hit for the cycle for the first time in his career before exiting the game on a knee sprain injury that placed him on the 10-day IL and ended his season early. For his spectacular defensive year, Urías won the third base 2022 Gold Glove Award He is the third Oriole third baseman to win the award, joining Brooks Robinson and Manny Machado in the elite club.
Urias signed with the Orioles for a one year deal prior to the 2024 season.
