BIOGRAPHY
Alex Young was born on September 9, 1993, in Hawthorn Woods, Illinois. He is a pitcher in the MLB.
He attended Carmel High School in Mundelein, Illinois, where he was named a 2012 Louisville Slugger first-team All-American. In his senior year, had a 7-1 record in 41 innings, striking out 71 batters. He was drafted by the Texas Rangers in the 32nd round of the 2012 Major League Baseball draft but chose to attend the University of Texas Christian instead.
As a freshman, he had a 7-4 record to go along with a team-leading five saves, with a 2.66 ERA. In 2014, Young had 22 appearances on the mound posting a 2.51 ERA in 43 innings pitched. After pitching primarily as a reliever in Youngs first 2 years at TCU, he made the transition into a starter and had 9 wins. Young earned a place on the 1st-team All-Big 12 and held opponents to a .210 batting average.
After his junior year, he was drafted by the Arizona Diamondbacks in the second round of the 2015 MLB draft. He made his professional debut with the Arizona League Diamondbacks, and after one scoreless appearance, he was promoted to the Hillsboro Hops where he finished the season, posting a 1.50 ERA in six innings. In 2016, Young played for both the Kane County Cougars and Visalia Rawhide, finishing with a 3.56 ERA. Through 2017 and 2018 he spent his time in the minors starting 21 games.
He opened the 2019 season with the Reno Aces, before earning his first big league promotion June 27, 2019. In his major league debut, Young pitched five innings and earned his first win against the San Francisco Giants. Young pitched a no-hitter through 6 innings on July 7, 2019, against the Colorado Rockies, but was pulled early due to a pitch count limitation.
On January 17, 2023, Young signed a minor league deal with the Cincinnati Reds that included an invitation to spring training. On March 30, Young had his contract selected after making the Opening Day roster.
