BIOGRAPHY
Alec Bohm was born August 3, 1996, in Lincoln, Nebraska. He is a third baseman in the MLB.
Bohm played college baseball at Wichita State University, where he majored in Sport Management. As a freshman in 2016, he hit .303/346/.489 with six home runs and 30 runs batted in (RBI) in 178 at bats. Collegiate Baseball named Bohm a First Team Freshman All American. He followed his freshman season by playing for the Wilmington Sharks of the collegiate Coastal Plain League, hitting .330/.407/.502 with 11 home runs (3rd in the league) and 51 RBIs (leading the league) in 203 at-bats, played in the All-Star Game, and won the CPL Home Run Derby. Baseball America named Bohm the league's Number 1 prospect.
On September 12, 2019, Bohm was named the winner of the Paul Owens Award, recognizing him as the Phillies' best minor league position player for the past season. And also, on October 10, he was selected for the United States national baseball team in the 2019 WBSC Premier 12.
On August 13, 2020, Bohm made his MLB debut against the Baltimore Orioles. Bohm got his first career hit on the same day, pulling a line drive for a double in his first career at-bat. On August 23, 2020, he hit his first MLB home run against the Braves in Atlanta. Bohm finished the season hitting .338/.400/.481 with four home runs and 23 RBIs in 44 games. He finished second in National League Rookie of the Year voting behind Devin Williams.
Bohm received his first opening day start in 2021, where he impressed both offensively and defensively against the Atlanta Braves, first with an inning-ending throw to first baseman Rhys Hoskins, followed by a sixth-inning go-ahead RBI. Bohm batted .247 in 115 games for the Phillies that season, with seven home runs and 47 RBIs in 380 at bats.
On June 8th, 2022, Bohm hit a game tying home run against Milwaukee Brewers closing pitcher Josh Hader. It was the first run given up by Hader since July 28th, 2021, and the first home run he had given up in the same time span. Hader was one scoreless inning away from setting an MLB record for consecutive scoreless innings at 41. The Phillies would go on to win the game 3-2 after Matt Vierling hit a go ahead home run later in the inning, leading to Hader’s first blown save since July 7th, 2021.
